I am super stoked to announce that I have been nominated for the Liebster Award by Erin from Wanderlost Travels! Thank you again Erin I am super excited to be nominated by such an epic blogger. Since I was nominated, I was asked to answer the following questions and come up with an additional 11 for my nominees to answer.
How long have you been blogging?
I started my blog back in January of last year so Fit Fab and Foreign is about to celebrate its first birthday! I keep kicking myself for not starting sooner. I’ve been to 19 different countries since moving to England almost 4 years ago, if I would have known what an amazing way this is to remember the trips I would have started after first getting here.
What inspired you to start your blog?
I followed The Blonde Abroad and World of Wanderlust for a long time. I always thought that they had such lovely content. People kept seeing all my photos from my travels and were constantly asking for advice. I was already traveling a lot. I just thought, ‘Hey, I should make a blog!’ one day. Since then I have been posting all about my never ending love for travel.
What is your favorite travel experience to date?
Oh man, this is a hard one. I cannot decide between my trip to Norway or my trip to Switzerland. Or even my trip to Ibiza with my good friends. I think I’ll have to say Ibiza because of the insane stories we have from the trip. We stayed a whole week on the Spanish island drinking copious amounts of Sangria and eating our weight in tapas. A lot of things went wrong. This includes our rental car getting stabbed by a garbage truck, forging our own path over a branchy mountain only to accidentally go cliff jumping into a school of jellyfish, and paying for an expensive party boat with free drinks after only to have the boat break down and have to use a shitty one (and we never got the free drink). This trip still is #1 because the friends I went with were like family to me. We all danced in the rain, cooked breakfasts for each other, and coaxed each other to jump out of our comfort zones. I don’t think I’ve ever been that happy.
One good thing about me is that it is almost impossible to embarrass me. I’ll write about unfortunate accidents instead since I have PLENTY. I always have something go tragically wrong when I travel, but hey, they make great stories. I tore my meniscus snowboarding on the bunny slopes in Austria. We slid down a mountain’s guardrail backwards in our car in Switzerland. We almost died in Norway. I got stung by jellyfish cliff jumping in Ibiza. We had a friend have a meltdown and run away from us in Lanzarote. I lost my GoPro, Wallet, and Phone in the ocean in Fuertaventura after an epic night at a cocktail bar. I had all my things stolen in Malta. I got groped in Seattle. These are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
Why do you think it is important to travel?
People are so closed-minded where I’m from. I think seeing MORE would change that. Everyone is different. If you’re brought up one way and never leave, you’ll think that’s how the world is and it’s not like that. People need to see more and do more. I am so happy it’s getting easier with social media making people more aware of everything in the world and it being far more affordable options to travel.
Who do you enjoy traveling with?
My boyfriend, Trevor is the world’s greatest travel companion. No matter how long we are together we never fight or argue. He is the most laid back, lovely, adventurous person I have ever met. He always pushes me to be the best version of myself and he is virtually fearless. I guess thats what happens when you jump out of airplanes for a living. I am so thankful to experience this life and everything it has to offer with him. We joke around about living life like an adventure novel. We will frequently say ‘Do it for the book!’ It doesn’t hurt that he’s ridiculously good looking as well 😉
What is your favorite or most exotic food that you’ve tried?
This one is EASY. In Ibiza, there was a restaurant downstairs from our AirBnB. The food was to die for. We ate there every single night. The Skirt Steak and Potatas Bravas were enchanting. I still dream of this place. A close second place is this seafood restaurant by Benagil Beach in the Algarve Coast Portugal. I had a shrimp pasta dish while Trevor had octopus and it was decadent.
What do you enjoy doing besides traveling?
I have a long list of random hobbies that I love doing: hiking, calligraphy, flying airplanes, web design, videography, building things, playing soccer, weightlifting, eating, and reading.
I love the flexibility that driving offers. You can come and go at your own pace and explore a lot more than you could on a train or bus. My second favorite is by train going through the mountains. You don’t have to fear for your life attempting to stay on the roads while admiring the scenery.
What is your favorite song?
I have a hard time choosing, but it’s probably going to have to be Ride by twenty one pilots. Check it out!
Do you wish you could (or do you already) travel full time?
Gosh, I wish I could. I think being unable to makes me appreciate it a lot more. If traveling was my job I’d probably have a tough time doing it forever. I want to work to enjoy my hobbies.
